Earlier this year, Dyson unveiled a new hair styling tool at an event in Korea and it’s now finally been announced officially in the UK.

Called the Airwrap Co-anda 2x, the new Airwrap builds on Dyson’s existing Airwrap technology – which, it itself was recently upgraded with the launch of the Dyson Airwrap i.d.

It promises stronger airflow, faster drying, and smarter AI features designed to protect hair from heat damage.

It then comes with six styling tools – for drying, curling, straightening, smoothing and volumising – and connects to the MyDyson app for personalised settings.

Below we explain everything you need to know about the new Dyson Airwrap, including how much it costs and when and where you can buy it.

Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x

According to Dyson, the new device is lighter and slimmer than previous models, which should make it easier to handle during styling. Seven sensors are built into the device to automate tasks like wrapping hair around the barrel, switching from hot to cold, and ending styling sessions automatically.

At the heart of the new Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x is said to be Dyson’s latest Hyperdymium 2 motor, which spins up to 150,000 times per minute. Despite the faster speed, the motor remains small and quiet, thanks to electric wires thinner than a strand of human hair. Dyson claims this helps maintain power without increasing bulk or noise.

Elsewhere, the Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x has a new airflow system, including what the Korean news site calls the Mixed Flow Impeller and Twin Over-Mould Diffuser, both of which combine to deliver twice the airflow and pressure compared to earlier Airwrap models, meaning hair dries faster while helping to reduce heat damage.

Another upgrade is the introduction of intelligent sensors that monitor air temperature “over 1,000 times per second”. The device automatically adjusts its settings depending on the attachment being used, using RFID technology. This is intended to keep styling temperatures within safer limits to help prevent long-term damage to the hair, and to boost the performance and finished style.

With all these new features, and technology Dyson’s team claims the Air Wrap Co-anda 2x can produce longer-lasting curls and straighter styles, with a more natural finish.

The MyDyson app then allows you to create a custom ‘curl routine’ by answering a series of questions about your hair type and styling preferences. This is already possible on the Dyson Airwrap i.d.

Dyson Airwrap vs Dyson Airwrap Co-anda 2x

On the surface, the Airwrap Co-anda 2x looks similar to the original Dyson Airwrap and has some features found on the Airwrap i.d but there are a few key differences.

In summary:

  • The original Airwrap still delivers excellent styling but requires manual adjustments for best results.
  • The Airwrap i.d adds a layer of intelligence by recognising attachments and adjusting settings automatically, making it slightly easier to use but otherwise similar in performance.
  • The Air Lab Co-anda 2x is the biggest upgrade so far, offering a brand-new motor, stronger airflow, app personalisation, and lighter design for faster, smarter styling.

In short, the Air Wrap Coanda 2x is a more powerful, faster, and smarter version of the Airwrap. However, whether it’s worth upgrading will likely depend on how much faster styling matters to you – and whether the added app features appeal.

  • Dyson Airwrap (original): Best for people who are confident styling their hair and don’t mind adjusting temperature and speed settings manually. It still gives great results once you get the hang of it, and might be a good choice if you find it at a discount.
  • Dyson Airwrap i.d: Best for people who want a slightly easier experience without losing the feel of the original Airwrap. Intelligent settings mean you don’t have to tweak the controls every time you swap tools, but overall styling performance is very similar.
  • Dyson Air Lab Coanda 2x: Best for people who style their hair often, want faster drying, and prefer a lighter, more high-tech device. The stronger airflow, app integration, and improved handling could make a real difference if you style daily or if time is a big factor for you.
